Men's Cycling Gear Essentials to Make Your Ride More Enjoyable - FITS®

  1. Weather Appropriate Layers

It’s no secret that cycling can be a fun way to squeeze in your daily or weekly fitness goals while taking in the much-needed fresh air and vitamin D. However, with the wrong apparel, your time on two wheels can quickly become uncomfortable–and possibly a dangerous situation for your physical wellbeing.

Switching up your men’s cycling gear to season-appropriate layers like summer and fall or winter cycling clothes will make all the difference in comfort during your ride, along with the body temperature regulation necessary for your safety. Choosing smart layers that can help wick away sweat, retain heat, or protect the body from elements like wind, rain, or snow is a vital component every cyclist should consider for optimal safety and comfort in any element.

  1. Smart-Design Cycling Socks

Socks are socks, right? Wrong. Different activities call for different layers (and levels) of support, and your feet are no exception. For crème de la crème comfort, trade in those decade-old all-purpose socks for a pair of sweat and moisture-wicking men’s merino wool cycling socks.

If your typical ride is done on paved roads and paths, the Performance Trail is a high cuff sock featuring our patented Full Contact Fit®, scree-guard, extra cushioning in the heel, toe, and arch and superior breathability and odor control you’ll quickly come to appreciate. If your two-wheeled adventures take you down roads less traveled, a cycling sock with a bit more coverage, like the Light Hiker Crew Sock, is a great option.

  1. Padded Shorts

With your feet set up for supreme comfort, there’s one other point of contact deserving extra attention: your seat.

As any experienced cyclist will tell you, one of the biggest growing pains for new cyclists is finding harmony in the seat. From saddle sores, numbness, back pain, and a perpetually sore rear, padded bike shorts can save you a lot of grief as you settle into your new routine.

Especially if you’re just starting out on your cycling journey, a pair of padded bike shorts can (and will) make a tremendous difference in your comfort and enjoyment level on the bike.

Moreover, bike shorts can be worn alone or under more loosely fitting shorts, depending on your preference.

  1. Gloves

When it comes to men’s cycling gear that can serve multiple purposes, cycling gloves are another option to consider.

From saving your hands in the event of a fall to improving grip, comfort, and lessening the growing pains that come with holding handlebars for hours each day or week, a comfortable pair of cycling gloves can go a long way in improving the enjoyability of every ride. Choosing a comfortable pair of gloves comes down to personal preference, including design, fit, padding, and material. Don’t be afraid to try on lots of different gloves to find the right fit for you.

  1. A Customized Seat

Cycling gear extends beyond just what you’re wearing and into bike-specific items, too. When it comes to the best men’s cycling gear for a comfortable ride, a customized saddle can make an incredible difference in your comfort and performance, along with helping mitigate lingering pain hours or even days after your ride.

Choosing a custom bike saddle can take a bit of time, but the investment to find a comfortable option for your anatomical needs is well worth it. Cycling Weekly recommends heading to your local bike shop to inquire about trying a new saddle, even testing one out for a few days or weeks to see if it’s a good fit for you. You may also ask your local bike pros to check your saddle height and position to ensure you’re in the best position for a comfortable ride.

Sock Sizing
women and men size chart

The Perfect Fit Starts With the Right Size.

Your sock size shouldn’t be a guessing game. Our socks range from small to double XL, but the best way to know the perfect fit for you is to match your shoe size to the chart on the left. That way, you’ll know the size you select will give you the fit and feel you expect.

Between sizes? Go with your gut, but rest assured that your socks will still fit great. If you receive your order and find yourself wishing you’d gone up or down a size, just let us know. We’ll happily send you replacements for your preferred size.

Concerned about laundry mix-ups? All FITS® socks are coordinated by color and size, based on the colors you see on the size chart. So, you won’t have to worry about mixing up your sizes with the other FITS® wearers in your home. (But stray socks mysteriously going missing in the dryer? Unfortunately, we can’t help with that.)

How Do You Determine Sock Size?

Sock sizes are typically measured in inches, not by your shoe size. So, a sock size 6-8 will comfortably fit someone whose feet are between six and eight inches long. However, at FITS®, we make it easy for you to choose the ideal sock size without having to measure your foot. Simply use our sock size conversion chart based on your shoe size to select the right fit for you.

How Do You Measure Your Foot for Socks?

To measure your foot for socks, measure the length from the heel of your foot to the tip of your longest toe. The measurement in inches correlates to your sock size. For example, if your foot is 10 inches long, a sock size 9-11 should fit you comfortably. At FITS®, you can skip this step and find your sock size based on your shoe size using our conversion chart.

What Is the Sock Size Conversion?

The sock size conversion refers to sock size compared to shoe size. While all companies may vary slightly on which size socks to purchase based on your shoe size, you can always measure your foot to find the right fit for you.

What is Sock Size to Shoe Size?

Because sock sizes are determined by the length of your foot in inches vs. your shoe size, shoe and sock sizes differ. The FITS® sock size to shoe size conversion is as follows:

Knowing this makes it easy to choose the ideal sock size based on your shoe size without measuring your foot.

What Age is Sock Size 9-12?

Sock sizes typically don’t correlate with age. For kids, age can be a general indicator of what size sock they’ll need, but everyone is different. An adult sock size 9-12 fits anyone whose feet are approximately nine to twelve inches long. For kids’ sock sizing, check with the company to find exact details to ensure your little one gets the perfect fit.
